After more than 40 hours of discussion and negotiation, the consensus text for the IBA has been approved. European Commissioner Thierry Breton and Carme Artigas told the press conference.
It will be published in January 2024, with gradual implementation deadlines of 6 months, 12 months and 24 months to be fully applicable.
R&D AI software is not included, the prohibitions on the use of biometric analysis only have exceptions associated with terrorists, victims and serious criminal offences. Police predictive analytics is prohibited. A European agency will be established and regulatory and real-world testing sandboxes will be established.
