Pep Martorell is an expert in supercomputing, artificial intelligence and science policies. He has served as the Associate Director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre and the Director General of Research for the Generalitat de Catalunya. He is currently a professor at Esade Business School and an advisor on deep-tech innovation. He is a regular speaker at senior management forums, where he combines strategic vision and technological knowledge.

John Calsamiglia. Physics degree from the Univesitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). PhD from the Helsinki Institute of Physics. Postdocs positions at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CFA) and UCONN, LMU München, and Universität Innsbruck. Completed the snow path and returned to UAB with a Ramón y Cajal fellowship, where I’m a professor with tenure since 2010. My main research interest is quantum information theory, in particular the areas of quantum statistical inference, non-classicality (resource theories), quantum learning and quantum complex networks.

Josep Manel Picas is the President and co-founder of SalusCoop. This Barcelona-based cooperative enables citizens to own and share their health data, advancing research and innovation in healthcare. He serves on the Board of Trustees of Fundació Aspace Catalunya, which supports people with cerebral palsy and their families. With a background in health IT and management, Picas has held key roles including CIO of Hospital de Sant Pau and Director of Primary Care for Barcelona’s City Council; he also acts as Medical Director at PAMEM mutual insurance.

Josep Maria Piqué is a seasoned medical professional and healthcare executive with a distinguished career spanning over 30 years at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. He began as an attending gastroenterologist (1982–1992), later serving as Head of the Gastroenterology Service (1993–2006), then as Medical Director (2006–2008), Director General of Hospital Clínic from March 2011.
As Director General, he also chaired the board of Barnaclínic and the Fundación Privada Clínic for Biomedical Research, and served as Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the University of Barcelona.

We are doing this by reviewing international initiatives with similar objectives, seeking opinions from various actors in different areas of knowledge, and proposing change based on the opportunities opened by the emergence of new disruptive technologies, particularly digitalisation, the application of AI, and the generation of knowledge through data analytics that the system itself can produce.
In the second block of the Symposium next October, we will present the foundations of the new model, explain the current level of progress in the reflection, and solicit attendees’ opinions to gauge the feasibility of the proposed model and enrich it with any ideas that may arise.
